Math Formulas for Filling & Wrapping Unit Test

Area of Polygons:

Triangle A = bh / 2

Square A = s x s

Pentagon divide the polygon into triangles, squares, or trapezoids 

than, find sum of areas of those polygons

Hexagon divide the polygon into triangles, squares, or trapezoids 

than, find sum of areas of those polygons

Trapezoid A = (b1 + b2) x h / 2

A = sum of two parallel segments x height of polygon div. 2

Circle A = pi x radius x radius

Circumference of a Circle C = pi x diameter

Surface Area of Prisms: find the sum of all the faces of the polygon 

- remember to include top and bottom of prism

Volume of Prisms :

Triangular V = Bh   (area of base x height of prism)

V = bh/2 x h

Square V = Bh   (area of base x height of prism)

Rectangular V = Bh   (area of base x height of prism)

V = lw x h

Pentagonal V = Bh   (area of base x height of prism)

Hexagonal V = Bh   (area of base x height of prism)

Volume of Cylinders: V = (TT x r x r) x h   

V = (3.14 x radius x radius) x height of cylinder

Volume of Cones & V = Bh / 3

Pyramids V = (area of base x height of cone, or pyramid, divided by 3)
